Insights + Tactics That Win.

SERVICES

COMMercialization services

All that the development and launch of a new product or service entails, from idea to delivery. This can and should include market research, competitive analyses, prototyping, product-market fit, naming, websites, product and company messaging, test launches, press releases, FAQs, and extensive documentation depending on industry vertical.

As a former startup veteran, I have direct, hands on experience with each and every one of these aspects of commercializing novel technologies and acclaimed products (both B2B and B2C) that have generated millions of dollars in recurring revenue, with particular strengths in beauty and personal care, food and beverage, mining, and materials.

FUNDRAISING

Emerging technological innovation is incredibly capital intensive.

Venture capital investment is the lifeblood of the early stage startup ecosystem. I have personally and viscerally experienced market boom and bust cycles on both US coasts and lived to tell the tale, having helped raise a cumulative $200M USD (and counting) in funding at several companies, and various stages, geographies, and verticals. I have a strong, international network of active investors who focus on areas including public health, deep tech, sustainability, and the future of food, beauty, materials, and natural resources.

Helping companies and investors find the right mutual fit and helping to get deals across the finish line is becoming one of my most important and fastest growing practice areas. Often this entails working closely with founders and teams to develop winning pitches, decks, data rooms, investment memos, and supplemental materials that stand out, to ease and streamline what is often a stressful experience for startups so that they can get back to what they do best: build.

Custom research

I am available for custom consulting projects, tailored research and reports, trends and foresight presentations, and speaking engagements suited to your unique situation and organizational needs – without the blind cheerleading, hype, and snake oil that plague so many emerging technologies.

My extensive network of subject matter experts and I can help you navigate challenges like:

  • What kind of biological innovation is on the horizon for my industry (for example: beauty and personal care, medical aesthetics, or mining)? Which companies and scientists are leading the way in commercializing the latest relevant advances, and are these solutions truly market-ready?
  • How do I figure out which industrial application of my technology to target first? What do total addressable markets (TAMs) look like, and how do we access them? Do the timelines required for commercial success make sense when considering my investors’ expectations?
  • Building products today, that your customers will demand tomorrow. As a B2B or a B2C, how can my team consider relevant features and benefits in our biotech-enabled product development, when it might take years to launch, and even longer to scale up?

EVENTS, TRADE SHOWS, & CONFERENCE STRATEGY

What key industry events do you need to engage in to connect with your desired audiences?

Or, is it time for your company to host an event to put a stake in the ground around a particular subject or demographic?

These are a significant investment in budgets, energy, and time, especially for newcomers to a space, who usually come unprepared and overwhelmed. When you cannot be everywhere all at once, we can help you plan, prep, and get the most enduring value out of these opportunities, whether a dinner, pop-up, surgically curated invite-only conference, or a much larger event with 1000+ guests.

organizational narrative & THOUGHT LEADERSHIP

What stories are your founders and top executives sharing with the world, and how do you expand and elevate its reach? Is that story being told with a sense of self awareness, and is it keeping up with constant and rapid changes in culture, technology, macro factors, and the competitive landscape?

Whether told in association with a fundraise, announcement of a major milestone, or steady maintenance of share of voice (SOV), the most impactful startup narratives are ultimately rooted in founder introspection, intention, and authenticity. Your overarching story, talking points, and supporting content should evolve along with your company’s stage of growth, size, internal culture, and goals.

CREATIVE CAMPAIGNS & EXPERIENCES

Depending on your business goals, good creative can truly serve as an essential secret weapon.

Stand out in a sea of competitors, and make sure your brand makes a lasting impression. Prime audiences for conversion in an immersive world of your creation. Showcase your latest product iteration in a FOMO-inducing setting with the appropriate tastemakers. Use the vast abundance of creative tools available today to imprint the value of your product, team, and technology in the minds of the right people. Often, this can be accomplished for less than you might think.

Special projects

If you have a need not described above, or a business concern outside of the scope of emerging technologies, let’s talk. In most cases, we can provide a complimentary 20-minute consultation call to determine whether my associates and I can offer a solution. If not, we can likely put you in the direction of someone who can.

I greatly value active doing, building, and calculated risk-taking over ivory tower theorizing. I love to win, and help others win, with integrity. These are the types of professionals I end up doing my best work with. And being asked to accomplish what many consider “impossible” on limited timeframes and budgets – and actually delivering – is my bread and butter.

My clients are based all over the world, and I typically work in a hybrid in-person/remote manner. I can usually be found somewhere in California, NYC, or my hometown of Vancouver, Canada.

A limited selection of past clients and projects can be made available upon request.
